This Simple Hack will Nip Your Home Buying Self Sabotage in the Bud

I didn’t think it was worth it to “figure out” a new gym for a couple of days, then have to leave town.

But then my trip was delayed…

So I was now going on week three of not going to the gym because the gym closest to my house had closed permanently.

But was leaving town soon REALLY a good excuse for not going to the gym for a couple of weeks?

I dug deep and asked myself WHY I was delaying going to the gym.

And I realized I was dreading being in a new gym.

I don’t like the feeling of not knowing where anything is.

Walking around looking for machines…

It’s like you are the new kid walking into a lunchroom at a new school.

Confused, friendless, and lost…

Wishing you would just blend into the wall.

I tried to emulate the questions my therapist would ask to challenge if what I was thinking was actually true.

What other “new” places do I go to by myself?

The first place I thought was whole countries.

My second thought was whole countries where I don’t speak the language.

I have been to 24 countries and probably half of those have been solo trips.

I don’t feel uncomfortable stepping into a whole new country.

So, what’s scarier…

Walking out of an airport in a foreign country OR walking into a new gym…

This question to myself made me realize my “fear” was ridiculous.

Especially considering that when I travel overseas I have found and gone to gyms on multiple occasions…

Using logic to find examples of new places where I have gone to and been fine, helped me to cut the BS and get back into the gym

And by the way, the new gym is hella sexy…

New equipment.

More space.

Eye candy….

I’m honestly kind of sad that I haven’t been going to this branch this whole time.

So, what’s my trick to beat self sabotage?

Ask yourself for evidence of you accomplishing something similar.

There is probably some kind of variation of what you want to do, that you have accomplished before.

Finding this evidence will help you gain the confidence to move forward with the task at hand and dismantle the fake news you are telling yourself.

Feel like you can’t buy a house?

Ask yourself if you have ever bought something hella expensive before… like a car.

There you go.

You have made a major investment in the past. You didn’t know how to get it done the first time you bought that car, but you got it done.

Instead of making a large purchase on wheels, we are now talking about a large purchase with a foundation.

You did it before, you can do it again.

Feel uncomfortable buying a house because you haven’t done it before?

Ask yourself if you have ever done something you have never done before and succeeded.

You aren’t a newborn…

So, I know the answer to that is definitely yes.

If you learned how to walk, talk, and run successfully, you can ALSO learn how to buy a house and succeed.

Feel like you can’t buy a house because you don’t know anyone else that has a house?

Ask yourself if you have ever done something that your peers haven’t that turned out to be a good thing.

Congratulations, you have evidence that it is safe and a good thing to do things that the people around you aren’t

Don’t have the money saved up for a house?

Ask yourself if have you saved up for something in the past?

Whether it was money for a trip or something smaller like a concert ticket. What did you do to save the money?

How can you replicate that savings process, but on a larger scale?

The Quick and Dirty Takeaway…

Thinking of specific examples from the past debunks your limiting beliefs.

It also increases your confidence.

It’s more empowering to use yourself as your own inspiration than someone else.

You can always think up reasons why someone else can do something and you can’t…

But if YOU are the evidence…

Well…

if you have already done something similar successfully, then there is no holding you back.

What is one limiting belief you have about buying your first or next house that you are going to work on erasing?
